The UG-CLAT 2023 is an exam that will evaluate the comprehension and reasoning skills of candidates, rather than prior knowledge, although previous knowledge may be helpful for some Current Affairs questions. It will be a 2-hour test with 150 multiple-choice questions, carrying 1 mark each, with a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer. In the Legal Reasoning section, passages of around 450 words will be provided, which may relate to fact situations or scenarios involving legal matters, public policy questions, or moral philosophical enquiries. Candidates will not require prior knowledge of the law but will benefit from general awareness of contemporary legal and moral issues. The questions will require the candidate to identify and infer rules and principles set out in the passage, apply them to various fact situations, and understand how changes to the rules or principles may alter their application.
The Logical Reasoning section will include short passages of about 300 words each, followed by one or more questions that will require candidates to recognize arguments, premises, and conclusions, critically analyze patterns of reasoning, infer what follows from the passage, draw relationships and analogies, identify contradictions and equivalence, and assess the effectiveness of arguments.
The Quantitative Techniques section will include short sets of facts or propositions, graphs, or other textual, pictorial, or diagrammatic representations of numerical information, followed by a series of questions that will require candidates to derive, infer, and manipulate numerical information and apply various 10th standard mathematical operations on such information.
To prepare for the UG-CLAT 2023, the Consortium plans to publish preparatory materials, including guides, sample questions, model question papers, instructional materials, and exercises for each of the subjects. The Consortium will also provide access to a learning platform where candidates can access the preparatory materials and their scores on various exercises and model question papers.
